5 Months Old

Layton is now 5 months old and he weighs 19 lbs. Here is what our little monkey is up to these days. Our little chunkster says "dada" now and Clifton is loving it. Everything is dada right now. He can sit up for about 10-15 seconds unassisted before he falls over. He can roll over and over to get from one side of the room to the other. His new thing is hitting everything. He hits the bottle when Nana feeds him and he hits me when I'm feeding him. He bangs on everything right now and wants to touch everything. He loves to pull mommy's hair and is reaching for our food now when we are trying to eat. He loves to jump in his jumperoo and now jumps in his exersaucer too. He plays with his feet all the time now. He takes three 45 minute naps a day usually and is sleeping pretty consistently from 9:30-6 but occasionally wakes up in the middle of the night looking for his pacifier. He has slowly started eating some cereal and we gave him some sweet potatoes the other night and he loved them. I'm sad because he is growing up way too fast buy he is becoming so much more fun everyday. Mondays are hard for me when I have to go back to work after spending three days with him. Here is a video of him saying dada.

San Antonio Rock in Roll Half Marathon

Sunday I ran the San Antonio Rock in Roll Half Marathon. It was so much harder this year than it was last year and last year I was 10 weeks pregnant. The humidity was 90% on Sunday and by the end of the race it was 75 outside. It doesn't sound to bad but the humidity made it so hot and muggy. I finished in 2 hours and 48 minutes. I didn't have much time to train for it this year because any free time I had after work I wanted to spend with Layton. It was a challenge Sunday trying to figure out the logistics of feeding Layton super early that morning and going over 6 hours before pumping right after the race. It was interesting to say the least. Clifton and Layton stayed home I didn't think it was a good idea for Layton to be around that many people and Clifton watched me run it last year. I met some of my work friends and some friends from Pleasanton I trained with at the AT&T Center at 5:15 that morning to catch the shuttles to the start line. It took our corral 30 minutes once the race started just to get to the start line. It was a neat experience being a part of something that big. There were almost 30,000 people running that morning and you see people running it for all different reasons. Watching people cross the finish line is a neat experience especially for the people that ran the full marathon. I'm not sure how soon I will be doing another one, I think for now I'm going to stick to the 5Ks and 10Ks. Here are some pictures from Sunday.

Mommy's Feet are Funny

Layton finds just about anything funny these days and there is nothing better than hearing him laugh. I had my feet propped up on the couch today and Layton just starting laughing at my feet wiggling. I had to get some video of it, he was making me laugh!

Nice Weekend

This weekend Clifton and I were very productive at the house. I haven't mentioned anything about this because it is a sore subject at our house these days but we FINALLY got the tile replaced in our game room, office and Layton's bathroom. Long story short the tile that was originally laid in our house was defective and has been coming up over the past 2 years. We have tried to have it fixed sections at a time and it just keeps coming up. We ended up picking out new tile and are in the process of having our entire house re-tiled. They will be back in another week or so to do the other side of our house. Needless to say we had a huge mess to clean up starting Friday night when the grout finished drying. I was anxious to get started because Layton has been sleeping in a pack in play in our dining room way too long because his room was packed full of the furniture from the game room and office. Layton was trying to be patient with us Friday night while Clifton and I cleaned baseboards, light fixtures, mopped the floor, and scrubbed the bathroom but we really couldn't get much done until he was in bed asleep. Clifton and I decided we better get as much done as we possibly can while he is asleep so we stayed up until 2 Saturday morning cleaning and then moving all the furniture back into the rooms. Unfortunately Layton didn't get the memo that Mommy and Daddy were exhausted and would want to sleep in a bit on Saturday morning and he was up at 7:30 ready to face the day. After a few failed attempts of us trying to get him to go back to sleep after I fed him we decided to get up and pick up where we left off. Clifton cleaned the back porch from top to bottom while I moved all of Layton's stuff out of our room into his room. I managed to go through all of his clothes and put away all the clothes he has already grown out of. I think he has more clothes than I do these days. I can't imagine having a little girl it would be ten times worse I'm sure. Layton enjoyed playing on the carpet and rolling around in his room while I organized everything.

After a full day of cleaning and laundry Grammy D and Justin, Natalie and the kids came over for some chili and beans and then some s'mores by the fire outside. We had a great time hanging out with everyone and Layton really enjoyed sitting outside by the fire. I'm so happy to have Layton in his room in his crib. He slept great last night so I'm hoping for another great night.

Today we hung out at home it was rainy outside so we rented a movie and took it easy most of the day. Clifton had two appointments this afternoon so I managed to nap while Layton napped this afternoon. Layton had fun in his new jumperoo after he woke up from his nap. He is so funny he waits to see if we are looking at him and then he jumps like crazy. He loves attention these days! Here are a few pictures from our busy weekend.

Layton the lizard, he has rediscovered his tongue this past week.

This weekend we decided it was time to put away Layton's swing. This was the last time we put him in it he decided to hang out over the side of it and swing his head around. He lasted about 5 minutes in it and then made it very clear he was done with it.

First Halloween

Saturday morning I got up really early and drove to San Antonio to meet one of my friends to run 11 miles in Alamo Heights. The weather was chilly but it felt so good once we got started. The first few miles were the hardest but I finally got into my groove. We ended up only running 10 we were both exhausted and had a full day of stuff to do so we called it a day after 10. The San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon and Half Marathon is in less than two weeks. Training this time around has been a challenge trying to coordinate Layton's feeding schedule in the evenings but I've managed to somewhat prepare myself for the big race. Last year at this time I was training while pregnant with him it was actually easier then because I had so much free time to run. I'm looking forward to the actual race but I've already decided I'm not worried about my time I just want to enjoy it and have fun!

I managed to squeeze in a short nap on Saturday afternoon while Layton was napping so we had enough energy to head out to the Fall Festival that evening. Layton got to wear his giraffe costume that his Nana bought him. I had to work one of the booths for a little while and Deborah "Grammy" came to hang out with us. It was fun seeing all the cute kids in their costumes. Layton was full of energy that night but by the time we left he was really tired. Here are some pictures from Layton's First Halloween.

Pumpkin Carving

Friday night we went to Justin and Natalie's house for pizza and some pumpkin carving. I held Layton most of the night and watched everyone else carve some pumpkins. They turned out so cute! Here are some pictures of Sadie and Layton and the pumpkins. Sadie was really making Layton laugh that night it was funny watching the two of them interact.

Here is Sadie showing Layton the pumpkin she painted.

The carved pumpkins!
Layton was so happy even at the end of a long day.

Candyland

Every year at the office we have a big Halloween party for all the employee's kids to come trick or treating. This year the accounting workers on my floor went in together to decorate the conference room for the decorations contest. Our theme was candyland and it turned out so cute!!! To go with the candyland theme Layton and I were M&Ms. My mom helped me put our costumes together at the last minute. Our group ended up winning first place for the decorations. We didn't win for our costumes but Layton was so cute as a mini M&M. We had a lot of fun handing out candy to all the kids. Here are some pictures from the festivities.

This is my friend Becky with her son Marshall. The M&M costumes were her idea.

John Deere Green

Here are some pictures of Layton in his John Deere outfit. My friend Becky loaned us this cute onesie, cap and boots for him to wear. He looked like a little boy with his cap on. He was a big hit at church that day! Daddy can't wait for Layton to be big enough to learn how to drive the tractor. Clifton actually took him for his first ride on the backhoe the other day because I wasn't home yet from work and he needed to do something outside. He wasn't a big fan of all the beeping he said.

Cereal Time

Last week Layton decided he wasn't going to sleep through the night anymore. He started waking up every 2 to 3 hours wanting to eat. Our pediatrician told us this would be a good sign that he was ready to start cereal. After three nights of me up with him I was exhausted and was willing to try anything to get him to sleep through the night again. Layton wouldn't eat the cereal he spit it out and cried. I don't think he was quite sure what to do with his tongue and the spoon. We tried for three nights with no luck so we eventually put a little cereal in a bottle and gave that to him before bed and he slept all night again. The cereal started bothering his tummy so we stopped giving it to him altogether for right now and he is sleeping all night again thankfully. We will probably try again in another month or two and see if he is ready to eat it off of a spoon. I'm guessing this was just another growth spurt or phase he was going through. Here are some pictures of us trying to feed him cereal.

Here are some pictures of Layton in his big boy boots. I tried them on him the other night to see if they would fit and they do. He wasn't quite sure what to think of them.
